Fun PA Facts
Work, family, and life’s many obligations can leave little time for a lengthy vacation, but you can probably find a day or two for a delightfully relaxing, yet fun getaway. Nestled in the scenic beauty of Northeastern PA’s Endless Mountains, your perfect escape awaits in Montrose.
Full of history, art, and delicious dining, Montrose is Hometown USA with comfortable, homey lodging, like that of the Rosemont Inn. Since October 2017, innkeepers John Bardowski and Randy Wormuth have been welcoming guests to their picturesque property surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds and decorated with unique regional art. Randy, the manager, and the staff chef treat guests to excellent omelets each morning. They’re served with fresh fruit and a choice of baked bread or muffins, plus coffee, tea, or hot cocoa. Overnight guests have a choice of five rooms on the second floor of the main house and four rooms in the cottage house, each with spectacular views. Favorites like the Family Suite, complete with two rooms of its own, make the Rosemont Inn perfect for those traveling with children. They’ll even put rubber duckies in the tubs to make the stay more fun for little ones. In contrast to accommodations of a traditional bed-and-breakfast, rooms at the Rosemont Inn each have their own private bathrooms, making for a much comfier stay.
The inn is conveniently located on Lake Avenue, just one block away from Montrose’s charming downtown where you can relax in the rustic comfort of the Uptown Grill on Maple Ave. The Uptown Grill offers an affordably priced full menu of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A new favorite for locals, it also serves up features like cinnamon roll pancakes and chicken & biscuits. Perhaps try the Uptown Grill for supper, after grabbing lunch earlier in the day at Joycie’s Café & Catering, open until 2 p.m. daily on Main Street. Joycie’s offers interesting choices like Snake Bite Macaroni and Cheese, made with pepper jack cheese and jalapeños, Seafood Jambalaya Soup, and made-from-scratch desserts.

Also to be discovered beyond just your typical array of stores, in Montrose there’s this one place that’s just a tad out of the ordinary: the Snake Creek Alpaca Farm & Village, just outside of the downtown on Route 29. At this unusual attraction, you’ll get a glimpse of the camel’s quirky cousins, the alpacas, and discover the warmth of 100% alpaca products, five times warmer than wool, and with no itch. In their shop, you can purchase cozy socks, gloves, hats, blankets, and a full line of accessories.
It’s just amazing what this seemingly small town has to offer! Would you believe you’ll find not one, but two breweries making their own distinctive beers? Oh, yes, you will. Endless Brewery, situated on Route 29, has been pouring out a tasty selection of seasonal and year-round brews for over five years, including choices like Crunchy Hippie Granola Multigrain P.A., E.B. Loves Jayne Apple Cider, and Espresso Chocolate Stout. Also tapping into the beer biz, on Church Street, 2 Guyz & A Dog Brewery, with a selection that includes Son-In-Law Irish Red, Amber German Altbier, and Hot Cocoa (a brew that combines cocoa and cayenne).
You can surely arrange for a two- or three-day trip to the seat of Susquehanna County, Montrose, exploring the history and incredible architecture. Enjoy Salt Streams State Park, with its walking trails and Pennsylvania scenery beyond belief. We’ve covered only a few Montrose’s many highlights, and haven't even mentioned the famous events that the town provides throughout the year, such as the Chocolate & Wine Festival, Woof Fest held on eight hundred forty-two of the most beautiful acres in Susquehanna Salt Springs Park, Lavender Festival, or the North Branch Artisans Tour, just to name a few.
